My n8n workflow breaks on an API rate limit — how do I make it reliable?

An n8n workflow calls an API capped at 60 req/min. On any spike it returns 429s and the workflow stops. How do I make this robust?

Three patterns to combine: (1) a "Loop Over Items" node with a batch size aligned to your limit + a "Wait" between batches; (2) on the HTTP node, enable "Retry On Fail" with exponential backoff (a 429 often returns Retry-After — respect it); (3) a dead-letter: route items that keep failing to a table, to replay without blocking the run. Never treat a 429 as fatal.

I wasn't reading Retry-After. Added it + batching, no more 429s for 2 days. Thanks.
